Update on Stairway to Heaven

If you are driving on the windward side of the H-3, you will see hidden in the beauty of the lush green foliage a trail of steps on the side of the mountain. This is known as the Stairway to Heaven or Haiku Stairs. Built in 1942, by the US Navy for a VFL antenna, 3,992 wooden steps were built to access the antenna. They were replaced with metal ladder steps and railings in the 1950's. Unfortunately, over the years, it has deteriorated with the environment and it is officially closed.
